What makes a tour genuinely private
A great many companies use the word. Fewer mean it. On a Morocco tour that is private in more than name, four things are true.
The itinerary is written for you, not selected from a list. The vehicle carries your party and no one else. The guide answers to you for the day, not to a schedule agreed months ago with a wholesaler. And the plan can change on the morning of day four, because nothing in it depends on anyone else’s arrangements.
That last point is the one guests notice most. If the medina is overwhelming on the first afternoon, you leave. If a conversation with a craftsman turns out to be the best hour of the trip, you stay longer. We build slack into every day for precisely this reason.
What every private tour includes
Your own licensed guide
Every guide we work with holds a Moroccan state licence, a legal requirement for guiding inside the medinas and a meaningful filter on competence. Guides change by region, so that each city is
presented by someone who lives in it.
Your own driver and vehicle
Air-conditioned vehicles, professional drivers, and no shared transfers at any stage — including airport pickups. Mercedes V-Class or equivalent for cities and main routes, 4×4 for mountain roads and desert approaches. Your driver stays with you for the whole journey.
Accommodation we have inspected
Boutique riads inside the historic medinas, five-star hotels, private villas and desert camps. We work directly with houses including Royal Mansour, La Mamounia, Kasbah Tamadot and Dar Ahlam, and we book named rooms rather than categories — in a riad of eight rooms, the difference between two of them can decide the mood of a stay.
Access you cannot book yourself
Private artisan workshops in Fès, a cooking session in a private dar rather than a school, dawn balloon flights over the Palmeraie, a table set for two in the dunes, or a quiet half-hour in a monument before it opens to the public. These come from long-standing relationships, not from a booking platform.
How we design your itinerary
Step 1 — Tell us how you like to travel
Your dates, the size of your party, and — more useful than any list of sights — how you prefer to move. Some guests want three cities in ten days. Others want one, properly. Both are good trips;
they are not the same trip. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) offer the most comfortable conditions nationwide, but we operate year-round.
Step 2 — Agree the shape and the budget
A frank conversation about budget early on produces a better journey and saves everyone time. It determines the calibre of the houses, the exclusivity of the access, and how much ground you can
cover without the trip becoming a series of drives.
Step 3 — Receive your proposal within 48 hours
A complete itinerary: route, named properties, daily experiences, transport, and one all-inclusive figure. No placeholder listings and no supplements revealed later.
Step 4 — Refine, confirm, travel
Change whatever you wish. Two or three rounds are normal and we plan for them. Once confirmed, your specialist handles every booking and remains reachable throughout your stay — the same person from start to finish.
Who designs your journey
Morocco Highlights was founded in 2018. In 2023 we launched Morocco Luxury Highlights to concentrate on private, high-end itineraries. We are a Moroccan travel agency licensed by the Ministry of Tourism under decision no. ODV-110/32, and a member of ASTA (American Society of Travel Advisors) and ARAVM.
The company is run by its founders, and you deal with them directly. Benoît Cordonnier coordinates the agency and its relationships with our partner hotels. Aziz has guided in English for more than twenty years and designs the itineraries. Fayssal runs ground logistics across the country and guides in English and French.

What a private tour of Morocco costs
Private travel in Morocco is quoted per day rather than per itinerary, because the length and the standard of a journey vary far more than its structure.
Our private journeys start at €500 per person per day, based on two travellers sharing. That covers accommodation, your private guide, your vehicle with driver, entrance fees and the experiences in your itinerary. A seven-day journey for two therefore begins at €7,000. International flights are not included, and rates rise over Christmas, New Year and Easter.
Beyond that level the range is wide: a suite at a palace hotel, a helicopter transfer to the desert or a privatised riad all change the figure considerably. We will tell you honestly where your budget places you before you commit to anything.
Where your private tour can take you
Most itineraries combine three or four regions: Marrakech and Fès for the medinas and the craft, the Sahara for the nights, the Atlas Mountains for the air, and the Atlantic coast when the appetite for monuments has been satisfied.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a private tour and a group tour ?
A group tour runs to a fixed route and a fixed schedule, usually with fifteen to thirty people. A private tour has no schedule but yours. You choose the departure time, the length of each stop and what to skip — and you can change any of it on the day, because nothing depends on other traveller’s arrangements.
How much does a private tour of Morocco cost ?
Private travel is quoted per day rather than per trip. Our journeys start at around 500 € per person per day based on two travellers sharing, including accommodation, private guide, private vehicle with driver, entrance fees and your experiences. International flights are not included. We will tell you where your budget places you before you commit to anything.
Can I change the itinerary once the trip has started ?
Yes, and guests regularly do. Accommodation is booked ahead and cannot always move, but the content of each day is yours to change. We deliberately build slack into every day so that a late start, a longer lunch or an unplanned detour costs you nothing.
Will I have the same guide and driver throughout ?
Your driver stays with you throughout the journey, providing continuity and a familiar presence from one destination to the next.
We generally favor keeping the same private guide throughout your journey as well. Our guides have extensive knowledge of Morocco and are selected for their ability to bring together the country’s history, culture, landscapes and traditions into one coherent experience.
For certain destinations or experiences, we may also introduce a specialist local guide when their particular knowledge adds something meaningful to your journey. It is not about changing guides from one city to another, but about bringing in the right expertise when it genuinely enhances the experience.
How far in advance should I book ?
Three to six months for travel in spring or autumn, and for specific riads and desert camps, which are small and fill early. Shorter notice is workable — we have designed journeys in under two weeks — but the choice of houses narrows, and the best rooms go first.
